What do the citation counts represent?
- The citation counts represent the number of times this article has been cited in other articles. The counts were extracted from two major citation indexes; Web of Science; and Scopus.
- A citation count of zero means that the citation indexes (Web of Science and Scopus) have not been able to trace any citations. This could be because the article was recently published and has not yet been cited.
- The citation counts may not include citations that are older than the coverage of the citation indexes.

How frequently are the citation counts updated?
- Updated citation counts are loaded into QUT ePrints at the beginning of each month.
How do I interpret the citation information from Google Scholar?
- The ‘cited by’ figure cannot be taken at face value. Click on the ‘cited by’ link and check that the citing documents are scholarly publications and that duplicate citations are discounted.
- Google Scholar indexes some print and electronic journals, conference proceedings, books, theses, dissertations, preprints, abstracts, and technical reports available from some academic publishers, aggregators, professional societies, government agencies, and preprint/reprint repositories at universities as well as those available across the web. Google Scholar indexes some grey literature and conference proceedings that may not be included in Web of Science and Scopus.
- It is not known how frequently Google Scholar content is updated and Google Scholar provides no explanation on how citation rates are calculated. The period and depth of indexing and the journals covered in Google Scholar are unknown, since source of data is not disclosed.

What do the download statistics represent?
- The download statistics represent the number of times the full-text version attached to the eprint record has been downloaded.
- Download figures are only available for eprint records that have a download-able (i.e. open access) copy of the paper attached.
- The first figure is the total number of downloads of the open access copy of the item since it was uploaded into QUT ePrints. The date it was uploaded is provided.
- The second figure is the number of downloads of the open access copy of the item during the last 12 months. This is a rolling figure.
- The figures are updated overnight, not in real time.
